Toklomati leads Charlotte FC back from two down in 3-2 win over FC Dallas

Charlotte FC spent most of Saturday chasing the match, then finished it in a rush. Idan Toklomati scored twice and set up the equalizer as Charlotte overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat FC Dallas 3-2 at Bank of America Stadium.

Dallas built the lead, but not the cushion

For more than an hour, this looked like a night Dallas could manage. Logan Farrington opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, finishing from very close range into the bottom-left corner after Herman Johansson delivered the cross. That left Charlotte behind at the break despite having more of the ball, and the home side still had not found a reply when Dallas doubled the margin in the 64th minute.

Petar Musa supplied that second goal, turning in Santiago Moreno's cross from close range for a 2-0 advantage. At that point the arithmetic of the match was uncomfortable for Charlotte: more possession, more corners and more overall shooting, but still a two-goal deficit. Dallas had not needed many elaborate sequences to get there. Both of its goals came from close range and both arrived off crosses, a reminder that efficient finishing can outweigh volume for long stretches.

Charlotte's response, though, had already been building in the underlying numbers. The home side finished with 56.4 per cent possession, 18 shots, eight on target and a remarkable 14 corners. Dallas defended a heavy workload, recording 30 clearances and 16 interceptions, and Daniel was forced into three saves. Those figures do not tell the whole story of a comeback, but they do show why the match never felt entirely settled even at 2-0.

A four-minute swing changed everything

The turnaround began in the 70th minute and it began with Toklomati. Allan Saint-Maximin set him up, and the striker converted from very close range with his left foot to cut the deficit to 2-1. That goal changed the emotional balance of the evening, but more importantly it changed the practical one: Dallas no longer had the luxury of treating every clearance as a small victory because the next phase was arriving immediately.

Only four minutes later, Charlotte were level. Harry Toffolo scored with a header from very close range after a corner, and Toklomati supplied the assist. That sequence mattered because it matched the statistical shape of Charlotte's night. The home side kept generating dead-ball pressure, and eventually one of those 14 corners produced the goal that wiped out Dallas's lead.

With the match square, Charlotte still had to find one more decisive action. It came in stoppage time. In the second minute of added time, Pep Biel played in Toklomati and the forward finished again from very close range, this time into the centre of the goal, for 3-2. Toklomati's line was the defining one of the match: two goals, one assist, three shots on target and direct involvement in all three Charlotte goals. In a game that demanded urgency, he supplied almost all of it himself.

Our take: Charlotte's pressure finally matched its finishing

Charlotte's most persuasive argument on the night was persistence. Fourteen corners, 33 crosses and 15 shot assists point to a team that kept manufacturing entries even when the scoreline was working against it. The comeback does not prove every attacking decision was sharp across the full 90 minutes, but it does suggest Charlotte gave itself enough repeated opportunities to be rewarded. When a side creates that many set-piece moments and still puts eight shots on target, the late breakthrough is easier to explain than if it had arrived out of nowhere.

Dallas, meanwhile, will regret how quickly 2-0 became 2-2. The visitors defended plenty over the course of the night and still left with a narrow loss, which is often what happens when clearance counts stay high for too long and possession tilts the other way. There was real quality in the finishing from Farrington and Musa, and Dallas were clinically ahead for much of the evening. But after the 70th-minute goal, the game moved onto Charlotte's terms. Toklomati was the clearest reason, yet the broader lesson is just as important: a lead can disappear fast when the other side keeps forcing corners, second balls and close-range chances. Saturday's finish was dramatic, but the numbers underneath it were warning of trouble well before stoppage time.
