01Who we are and what this policy covers
Vancouver Television Broadcasting Corporation ("VTV", "we", "us" or "our") operates vancouvertelevision.ca. This policy describes personal information handled through our website, contact and contest forms, and optional website features. It does not replace the privacy policies of external websites, social platforms, ticket sellers or streaming services.
02Information you provide
Contact forms collect your name, email address, inquiry type and message, and an organisation name if you choose to provide one. Contest forms collect the details shown on the entry form, such as name, email address, phone number, eligibility confirmations and entry responses. Inquiries about employment, licensing, credentials, interviews, advertising or corrections may include further information you choose to provide. Please send only what is necessary for your inquiry and do not include passwords, payment details or unnecessary sensitive personal information.
03Information collected through website use
Our hosting and website services receive technical information when your browser connects, such as IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps, referrer information and error or security events. Hosting measurement tools may collect information about visits and website performance. The website also uses browser storage to remember feature settings, such as sports notification preferences. The contact form uses a temporary session cookie and security token, and a short-lived hash of the requesting IP address to limit abusive submissions.
04Optional notifications and location
If you enable browser notifications, notification identifiers or subscriptions and your selected preferences are used to deliver updates. You can withdraw browser notification permission in your browser or device settings. If you use the traffic location feature and permit location access, your browser supplies coordinates so the map can show your surrounding area. Location access can be revoked in browser or device settings. You can browse the site without enabling these optional permissions.
05Why we use information
We use information to operate and secure the website; respond to inquiries and requests; administer contests and contact entrants or winners; manage licensing, media and business inquiries; deliver requested notifications; remember preferences; understand website performance; investigate errors or misuse; and meet applicable legal obligations. Sending an inquiry or entering a contest does not by itself subscribe you to promotional email. Any additional marketing use requiring consent will be presented separately.
06Service providers and disclosures
The website and contact form are hosted through GoDaddy; form messages are delivered to VTV’s company inbox. Hosting, email, notification and website technology providers process information needed to provide their services. Optional notification technology includes OneSignal where enabled. We may disclose relevant information when authorised by you, required or permitted by law, or reasonably necessary to address fraud, security incidents or legal claims. A contest may involve a prize partner; any additional sharing needed for entry or prize fulfilment should be explained in its rules or collection notice. We do not sell contact-form messages or contest-entry details.
07Cookies, browser storage and embedded services
Cookies and similar storage support functions such as form security and remembering preferences. Hosting measurement scripts and external media may also receive technical information when loaded. The site may load videos, maps, fonts, images or other resources from external providers, including video and social platforms. Those providers may receive your IP address, browser information and the page or media requested, and may use cookies under their own policies. You can manage cookies, stored site data and permissions in your browser. Blocking these technologies may affect forms, saved preferences or embedded features. Browser controls do not necessarily prevent information from being sent when an external resource is loaded.
08Where information is processed
VTV and its service providers may process or store information in Canada and other countries. Information processed outside your jurisdiction may be subject to the laws and lawful access requirements of those countries. Contact us if you have questions about processing relevant to your inquiry or use of a particular feature.
09Retention and security
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here, including responding to inquiries, administering contests, resolving complaints and meeting legal recordkeeping requirements. Retention depends on the type of record and its purpose; deleting a browser cookie does not delete an inquiry already delivered to our inbox. Information no longer required should be securely deleted or anonymised, subject to legal obligations and backup cycles. We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information, but no website, email system or storage method can be guaranteed completely secure.
10Your choices, access and corrections
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to personal information we hold about you, request correction, ask about our practices, or withdraw consent for a use that relies on your consent. Withdrawal may limit our ability to provide the requested feature or service and may not require deletion of records we must retain. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity before releasing or changing personal information. Do not send identity documents unless we specifically request them through an appropriate process.
11Children and contest eligibility
The website is intended for a general audience and its inquiry forms are not designed to collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has supplied personal information that should not have been collected, contact us. Contest age and location requirements are set out in the applicable rules; they may be more restrictive than access to the general website.
12Editorial information
News reports may contain information about people, public events and organisations. The privacy treatment of information used for journalism can differ from information collected through inquiry forms and other business activities. For concerns about published coverage, use Editorial Complaints or Submit a Correction. This policy does not promise automatic removal of lawfully published reporting.
13Privacy inquiries and complaints
Use our Privacy Request form for access, correction, consent or privacy questions addressed to Vancouver Television Broadcasting Corporation. Describe the relevant interaction and your request without including unnecessary sensitive details. If your concern is not resolved, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia or another privacy regulator with jurisdiction.
14Policy updates
We may revise this policy when website features or information practices change. Where a change requires further notice or consent, we will provide it as required by applicable law.
