Two first-half finishes changed the match

For Houston, the reasonable lesson is not to abandon an approach that produced pressure. It is to sharpen what came at the end of those sequences. Eight corners and 19 shots should usually create more strain on a defence than this scoreline shows. A cleaner final pass, a more selective shooting choice or simply better execution inside the box would all be fair areas to examine after a night like this.

Sporting should leave encouraged by the attacking efficiency of André Luiz and Harris, but there is room for caution inside a comfortable scoreline. Allowing Houston the edge in possession, corners and shot volume is not a formula that will always end this cleanly, even with a goalkeeper delivering four saves. On this night, though, Sporting earned the right to enjoy the ruthless part of the performance: two well-taken first-half goals, no concession, and three road points secured with far less waste than the home side.
