Austin FC announced Friday that it has signed forward Christian Ramírez to a contract extension running through the 2027-28 season. The club confirmed the move as an extension and stated that Ramírez will remain in Austin beyond his current agreement, extending his time with the team he joined ahead of the 2026 season.

The club said Ramírez has been a key attacking presence for Austin FC this year, tallying a team-best nine goals and two assists across 25 regular-season appearances. Austin FC also framed the extension as a reward for what it described as his performances and the day-to-day qualities he brings to the group.

Chief soccer officer Khaled El-Ahmad spoke on the extension, saying Ramírez “has earned this new contract through his performances and the qualities he brings to our group every day.” El-Ahmad added that Ramírez “scores important goals, leads by example and brings the professionalism and character we want at Austin FC,” and said the club is “pleased to keep him here” while it works to “strengthen the team and raise our standards.”

Austin FC said Ramírez is entering his ninth MLS season. The club’s announcement lists previous stops that include the Columbus Crew, Houston Dynamo FC, LAFC, LA Galaxy and Minnesota United FC, and it provided an overall MLS regular-season production figure of 64 goals and 23 assists in 210 matches.

The team also included roster information in its announcement, stating that Ramírez will occupy a senior roster slot beginning in the 2027 MLS Sprint Season. That detail signals that the extension is tied to Austin FC’s forward planning for the club’s roster structure in the upcoming MLS Sprint period.

In a statement included with the announcement, Ramírez said that at the start of the 2026 season he “didn’t know where I’d be playing,” but reflected that Austin FC has since become “the perfect place for me to land.” He thanked the club for the opportunity “to come in and make an impact both on and off the pitch,” and said he believes “there are big things ahead for the club.”

Ramírez added that Austin FC is “an amazing organization with amazing people and fans” and stated that he is “happy that my family and I will be staying in Austin.” With the extension confirmed through 2027-28, Austin FC’s next steps will now include managing Ramírez’s senior roster slot status for the 2027 MLS Sprint Season while continuing to plan around the team’s remaining contracts and roster decisions.

The extension is the latest transaction involving Austin FC in the context of MLS roster-building for future seasons. With the club keeping a proven scorer under contract through the 2027-28 campaign, the move establishes a longer-term foundation for its forward group as Austin FC prepares for the team-building process ahead of the 2027 roster cycle.
