Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli will travel to the United States for the next round at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas with a mathematical pathway to clinch the 2026 F1 World Championship after his podium result in Singapore. According to Formula 1 standings information provided with the update, Antonelli is now 102 points clear at the top of the drivers’ championship.

The underlying title scenario is tied to Antonelli’s third-place finish in Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix and the impact of results elsewhere. The same update notes that Mercedes team mate George Russell recovered to ninth place after starting from the back of the grid, a result that helped maintain the points advantage at the head of the field.

With six rounds remaining and 150 points still available across those remaining races, the championship margin gives Antonelli a clear target for the next Grand Prix. Formula 1’s description of the situation states that Antonelli can put the title “beyond doubt” if he leaves Austin with a lead of 125 points or more over his nearest rival.

Antonelli’s reaction highlighted how close the title picture has become. After watching Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc at Marina Bay Street Circuit following the Singapore race weekend, Antonelli was told his podium had placed him on the brink of clinching the championship. He responded in the team/driver quotes carried in the update: “Can I? Really? Let’s not worry about that! Let’s try to do the best weekends possible and finish the job.”

In race terms, Formula 1’s account credits Antonelli’s climb from fourth to third during the closing stages. The move came after the Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton and the McLaren of Lando Norris became involved in a fight late in the race, creating an opportunity for Antonelli to gain position when the battles unfolded.

The podium also served as a signpost for development progress. The update says the result underlined the pace improvement Antonelli and Mercedes appeared to make as they better understood the team’s latest car upgrades during the Singapore weekend. In the same context, Russell is described as reverting to an older specification package for the race, contrasting the weekend choices within the team.

Antonelli also assessed his tyre performance over the race distance. He said it was “not easy out there,” adding that he “felt very good on the soft [tyre], but on the medium I struggled a lot.” He then pointed to an encouraging late-race trend, stating that on the softs the pace “was very good at the end; it was very, very good.”

Looking at the broader weekend, Antonelli credited Mercedes for improvement work on the car and framed the next steps as narrowing the setup window. He told Formula 1: “The team did a great job on trying to turn [things] around, especially the car.” He added that the team’s aim now is understanding “which one is the best window, how to put the car in the best window, in order to extract the maximum out of the package.”
