LA Galaxy sign goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski to contract extension through 2028-29 MLS season

The LA Galaxy announced on Friday that they have signed goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski to a contract extension. The new agreement keeps Marcinkowski with the club through the 2028-29 MLS season, extending his run as a member of the team’s goalkeeper group.

Marcinkowski is 29 years old. He previously represented the United States at youth levels as a former US youth international, and the extension formalizes the club’s commitment to him for the seasons ahead.

Marcinkowski joined the LA Galaxy ahead of the 2025 season and has appeared in 27 starts across all competitions since his arrival. Over that span, he recorded six clean sheets, according to the club’s announcement. The Galaxy’s statement also highlighted his experience and consistency in goal as factors in the contract renewal.

Before his move to Los Angeles, Marcinkowski spent seven seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes as a homegrown player, covering the 2018 through 2024 period. During his time in San Jose, he logged 95 regular-season matches and posted 18 clean sheets, a record the Galaxy cited as part of his professional background.

In making the announcement, LA Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz praised Marcinkowski’s conduct and readiness to contribute when called upon. Kuntz said, “JT has been a consummate professional and competitor since his arrival,” adding that the goalkeeper “has taken advantage of every opportunity he’s received to earn his place” and “provides a steady, reliable veteran presence for the group.”

Kuntz also stated that the club is “happy to ensure that JT will continue as an important part of the LA Galaxy moving forward,” framing the extension as a step toward maintaining stability in the position.

The Galaxy’s contract decision comes as they continue their push in the Western Conference. Per the club’s announcement, LA Galaxy are eighth in the Western Conference with 33 points, and the team is working toward a postseason berth.

The announcement further noted that the Galaxy are seeking their first Audi MLS Cup Playoffs trip since winning a record sixth MLS Cup in 2024. With Marcinkowski under contract through the 2028-29 MLS season, LA will look to leverage continuity at goalkeeper as the team builds toward its next playoff run.
