Image accompanying the official MLS announcement.Denis Bouanga added another milestone to his LAFC record as the team played the Matchday 27 Walmart Saturday Showdown against the San Jose Earthquakes. Bouanga scored in the 53rd minute, finishing off a play that came from an assist by Son Heung-Min, helping LAFC reach a 2-2 draw at San Jose’s home venue.
With the goal, Bouanga moved past Carlos Vela for the club’s all-time MLS regular-season goals lead. The league announcement states that Bouanga has 79 MLS regular-season goals in 127 appearances, while Vela has 78 in 152 regular-season matches.
The milestone follows earlier LAFC record-setting production across all competitions. The MLS report notes Bouanga was already LAFC’s all-time leading scorer in all competitions and has 122 goals during his Black & Gold career, compared with 93 for Vela.
Bouanga’s LAFC career has included major team and individual achievements since joining the club in August 2022 from Saint-Étienne. The league information says the forward helped deliver an MLS Cup–Supporters’ Shield double in 2022.
For broader context, the report says Bouanga has been named to the MLS Best XI three times and is the only player in MLS history to score 20 or more goals in three straight seasons. The same league note lists him with a team-high 14 goals this season and says he has seven matches left to reach the 20-goal mark again.
