Aston Martin confirms unchanged 2027 driver line-up with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll

Aston Martin has confirmed it will race an unchanged driver line-up in 2027, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll extending their long-term contracts to stay together for a fifth season. The announcement comes ahead of this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, with the team currently positioned 10th in the Teams’ Championship.

The deal means Alonso and Stroll will continue their partnership through 2027, after already forming one of the sport’s most experienced pairings. Together, they have 644 race starts between them, making them the most seasoned line-up on the 2027 grid, according to the team’s announcement.

Alonso said signing the new contract took time but that he remains focused on competing at the highest level. He described racing as his “life” and “passion,” and added that his commitment to Aston Martin is long term, citing confidence in the organization’s leadership, people, partners and facilities, as well as the atmosphere created by fans.

Stroll also expressed satisfaction about continuing with Aston Martin Aramco for the long term. He pointed to his belief that the team has the resources and personnel to become a winning outfit, and highlighted ongoing work at Silverstone as motivating evidence of progress across “every department.”

Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll framed the contract extensions as part of Aston Martin’s next chapter. He said both drivers have been crucial to the team’s journey, noting that their experience, commitment and knowledge provide “tremendous value” across the organization, while emphasizing that the team’s short-term focus remains improving performance alongside its long-term objectives.

With Aston Martin’s two seats set for 2027, four places remain open on the grid. The Formula 1 release also noted expectations elsewhere: Haas is expected to announce that Ollie Bearman will stay, with FIA Formula 2 Championship leader Rafael Camara seen as the front-runner for Bearman’s team mate, while Racing Bulls are expected to retain Arvid Lindblad for a second year. The release adds that Liam Lawson is hoping for another full season, though there remains a possibility Racing Bulls could promote Nikola Tsolov, currently second in F2.
