Kimi Antonelli sealed a dominant win at the 2026 United States Grand Prix, a victory Formula 1 says was powered by “perfect execution” and moved him closer to securing his maiden Drivers’ Championship. Speaking shortly after the race, Antonelli described the result as exactly what his team needed, adding that the work on a “new package” had finally translated into on-track success. “It was the result we needed,” he said. “The whole team deserves it so much… and finally seeing the result is very pleasant.”

According to the official race account, Antonelli started from pole and converted a strong launch into early control, building a lead ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Formula 1 also credited Mercedes with a “clever one-stop strategy” that allowed Antonelli to manage the race from the front, rather than being forced into repeated fight-or-flight exchanges late in the event.

As the race progressed, challenges from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Verstappen—both of whom finished behind Antonelli—were described as fading once Antonelli’s pace and race management became clear. After 56 laps at the Circuit of the Americas, Antonelli crossed the line 13.078s clear of Leclerc to claim his ninth Grand Prix victory of the 2026 season.

Leclerc finished second, with Verstappen completing the podium in third, as described in the official summary of the result. Antonelli’s victory also extended his championship position: Formula 1 states that it increased his points total in the Drivers’ standings to 365.

With George Russell finishing eighth, Formula 1 reports that Antonelli’s lead over Russell is now 123 points. The official account frames the championship picture in terms of the next race in Mexico City, stating that Antonelli would be crowned the youngest World Champion in F1 history as long as he limits the points he loses to his team-mate to no more than 23 points, or to Lewis Hamilton to no more than 24 points, at the next round.

Antonelli addressed the possibility of securing the title quickly while keeping focus on performance and momentum. “We’re very close but we’ll try to finish on a high, and hopefully we can clinch it very soon,” he said after winning in Austin. He later added that he wants to approach the remaining races with the mindset of enjoying the moment, describing the period ahead as one that will be remembered.

He expressed excitement about closing out the championship in style, saying he would like to “clinch the title in style with a great result,” and emphasizing that the mindset from that point “until the end of the season” would be consistent—enjoying the time while pursuing the win every weekend.
