Cavan Sullivan leads 12 MLS call-ups as USMNT names 28-man roster for September/October friendlies

Cavan Sullivan’s breakout season with the Philadelphia Union has earned him a first call-up to the United States men’s national team. MLSsoccer.com reports that the 16-year-old midfielder is among 12 MLS players named to USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s 28-man roster as the 2030 FIFA World Cup cycle begins with four international friendlies in the September/October window.

The USMNT’s four-match slate begins with games against Peru and Chile before concluding the trip with matchups against Mexico and Canada. MLSsoccer.com notes the expanded international window is intended to limit disruption across the global club calendar, and that the USMNT camp includes nine MLS newcomers seeking their first senior cap during their first senior camp.

Philadelphia’s homegrown players are represented by Sullivan, along with center back Neil Pierre (18) and right back Frankie Westfield (20). Red Bull New York contributes homegrown midfielder Adri Mehmeti (17) and forward Julian Hall (18), while the New England Revolution has homegrown wingback Peyton Miller (18) and midfielder Brooklyn Raines (21). Orlando City homegrown forward Justin Ellis (19) and Nashville SC goalkeeper Brian Schwake (25) are also part of the MLS contingent.

Joining the newcomers are three players who represented the USMNT at the 2026 World Cup: goalkeeper Chris Brady of Chicago Fire FC, goalkeeper Matt Freese of New York City FC, and center back Miles Robinson of FC Cincinnati. MLSsoccer.com also states that of the players in Europe, eight are MLS homegrown alumni, including defenders George Campbell (Atlanta United), Alex Freeman (Orlando City), Chris Richards (FC Dallas) and Auston Trusty (Philadelphia Union), as well as midfielders Tyler Adams (Red Bull New York) and Sebastian Berhalter (Columbus Crew), and attackers Zavier Gozo (Real Salt Lake) and Ricardo Pepi (FC Dallas).
