CARSON, Calif. — The LA Galaxy strengthened their push toward the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs with a 4-1 home win over Austin FC on Saturday afternoon, a result that moved them back into the playoff places in the Western Conference.

Marco Reus, returning after illness that kept him out of last week’s El Tráfico, led the Galaxy’s attacking production with three assists as LA broke through against Austin FC. The win comes after the Galaxy spent the week seeking a positive result to close on a postseason berth.

The Galaxy’s victory lifted them to seventh in the Western Conference with 44 points. Head coach Greg Vanney said the team is aiming to secure the playoffs by taking care of its final matches, adding, “If we take care of business next week and we go into the playoffs, not a lot of teams are going to love seeing us across from them.”

Reus’s impact was part of a wider offensive effort that featured additional contributions from established attackers. In his return from injury, Mexican international Chucky Lozano scored the second goal of his LA career, finishing with a header into the left corner. The source notes Lozano ran to Reus to celebrate his goal.

Lozano also described his appreciation for the partnership around him, saying, “He has impressive quality, and I really like playing with him. I believe many players would want to play with him, and I am very happy to have the opportunity to be by his side.”

Sergi Roberto, the Spanish midfielder, added to LA’s scoring with his first goal in Galaxy colors. The match report credits him with an assist and a goal, including the fourth strike of the afternoon for the Galaxy.

Despite the momentum created by Saturday’s result, postseason qualification for the Galaxy remains contingent on the rest of the Western Conference standings. The Galaxy will spend the remainder of the weekend watching other results as they await clarification on playoff positions.

LA Galaxy can secure its postseason spot next Saturday on Decision Day with a matchup at 10th-place Real Salt Lake. Real Salt Lake are described as sitting two points behind LA and one point outside the Wild Card spots heading into the game, with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm ET and available on Apple TV.

While the Galaxy have returned to playoff positioning after Saturday’s win, the path to clinching a berth is still set to be determined by results across the conference and by LA’s performance on the final weekend matchday at Real Salt Lake.
