FIA announces 2027 Formula 2 and Formula 3 calendars with new stops in Istanbul and Mexico City
Image accompanying the official F1 announcement. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have announced their respective calendars for the 2027 season, extending their support role to Formula 1 across the year with new venues and a mix of returning classic locations. The calendars begin in March with races in Bahrain and Jeddah before moving into a spring swing that includes Melbourne and then Montreal in May.
For Formula 2, the championship is scheduled for 14 rounds in 2027, with key additions including Istanbul and Mexico City. Montreal returns to the F2 calendar after the series races in Canada for the first time in 2026, while Istanbul will also feature as a new venue—staging a race for the first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Mexico City is set to join the calendar for the first time in the series’ 2027 campaign.
The 2027 Formula 2 calendar also places the series in the usual mid-season rhythm around Formula 1 events. After the opening stretch that includes a June phase “around Monaco,” the championship is set for back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. Following the summer break, it resumes in Monza before heading to Madrid.
In September, Formula 2 is the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan, before both Formula 2 and Formula 3 join Formula 1 in Istanbul for what is described as the season-ending Formula 3 round. Formula 2 then returns to Mexico at the end of October before going to Qatar and Abu Dhabi to close out its final two rounds of the season.
Formula 3 will contest 10 rounds in 2027, with the calendar including first-time visits to Jeddah and Montreal. Like Formula 2, Formula 3 begins in March in Bahrain and Jeddah, then heads to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. The series also returns to action in June around the Monaco period before staging consecutive rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg.
After the summer break, Formula 3 is scheduled to race in Monza before continuing to Madrid. In the closing months, the series’ schedule has both championships aligning with Formula 1 in Istanbul for the season-ending Formula 3 round, following the Azerbaijan September stop where Formula 2 is listed as the sole supporting category.
Speaking as Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said the 2027 Formula 2 calendar “will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds” and highlighted Istanbul and Mexico City as additions. Domenicali also framed the junior series as “the ultimate pathway to Formula 1,” adding that it gives promising young drivers the chance to compete alongside the sport’s top tier and develop future stars. He thanked FIA leadership and the wider ecosystem of promoters, partners, officials, marshals and volunteers supporting the championship.
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, said he was “very excited” to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, referencing Montreal’s return following its 2026 addition and the first appearances of Istanbul and Mexico City. Michel also stated that Formula 2 will be “covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams,” and described the full 2027 schedule as spanning four continents with a carefully distributed sequence of rounds aimed at bringing the category to new audiences while strengthening its role as a global platform for the next generation of Formula 1 talent.
With the calendars set for publication and the 2027 slate now defined, teams and drivers across both junior categories can begin preparations around the revised geography—particularly the introduction of Istanbul and the first-time inclusion of Mexico City for Formula 2—as well as the way both championships align with Formula 1 events such as Monaco, Azerbaijan and the season finale in Istanbul for Formula 3.
