Chicago Fire FC details ongoing progress at planned McDonald’s Park stadium slated for 2028
Image accompanying the official MLS announcement.Construction has begun at Chicago Fire FC’s planned home, McDonald’s Park, as the club continues to target an opening in 2028 for its privately funded, $750 million soccer-specific stadium. The team says the venue is being built at The 78 development in downtown Chicago’s South Loop, placing the project on a track the club describes as on schedule for that 2028 debut.
McDonald’s Park is designed to hold 22,000 fans and is planned to feature natural grass. Chicago Fire FC also outlined design priorities intended to keep supporters close to the pitch, emphasizing sightlines and atmosphere to bring fans nearer to the action than in many traditional multi-purpose venues.
The stadium’s architecture includes a canopy designed to amplify crowd noise, according to the club. Chicago Fire FC adds that the project is being built with FIFA standards in mind, positioning the venue to host international competition in addition to MLS matches.
Matchday programming is also beginning to take shape. The club said hospitality partner Levy is developing a food-and-beverage program that will include local offerings and Levy’s partner network, with the intention of bringing Chicago flavour into the stadium experience.
Chicago Fire FC also provided details on matchday hospitality, including three luxury hospitality experiences with a combined total of 600 seats. The club says those luxury spaces include heated seats in outdoor luxury areas and access to climate-controlled indoor sections.
For culinary programming in the luxury hospitality offerings, Chicago Fire FC stated that the experiences will be chef-driven, with Architecture and design firm Gensler helping develop the spaces. The club said the design incorporates Chicago-inspired materials and finishes throughout these hospitality areas.
Beyond the named features, Chicago Fire FC said additional information about ticketing, premium inventory and matchday experiences will be released in the coming months. The club pointed supporters to DearChicago.com for ongoing stadium updates and information related to seating options as construction continues at the site.
