St. Louis CITY extend unbeaten run to 17 matches with 3-0 road win over Red Bull New York ahead of LA Galaxy clash
Image accompanying the official MLS announcement.St. Louis CITY SC kept its 17-game league unbeaten run alive with a 3-0 road victory over Red Bull New York, setting the stage for the Matchday 29 Sunday Night Soccer presented by Continental Tire matchup against the LA Galaxy. The result extended St. Louis’ stretch of league form and reinforced the turnaround they have produced under first-year head coach Yoann Damet.
Rafael Navarro provided the breakthrough early, scoring for St. Louis after five minutes against Red Bull New York. St. Louis then added two late insurance goals to complete the shutout, with Simon Becher and Tomáš Ostrák finding the net to make the final score 3-0. The win kept the unbeaten streak moving across league play and maintained momentum heading into the next fixture.
The unbeaten run is part of a broader resurgence for St. Louis. Under Damet, the team has gone unbeaten in 17 consecutive league matches and 19 across all competitions. St. Louis are also one game away from tying Red Bull New York for the all-time unbeaten run across all competitions, a mark of 20 games set during the 2016 season.
Beyond the immediate result, St. Louis have also been pursuing silverware. In addition to challenging for first place in the Western Conference, the club reached the US Open Cup final. The team is scheduled to visit the Columbus Crew on Oct. 21 for its next league date before competing for what would be the club’s first-ever trophy in the US Open Cup.
While St. Louis entered the spotlight on the back of its road shutout, the matchup context for the LA Galaxy is similarly shaped by recent performance swings. LA’s most recent game referenced in the league update was a 3-2 home victory over the Colorado Rapids in which the Galaxy rallied from two goals down.
The Galaxy’s comeback against Colorado included a Reggie Cannon own goal that gave the Rapids an early advantage before João Klauss equalized in the 66th minute. Justin Haak then completed LA’s turnaround eight minutes later, heading home his first Galaxy goal. With that win, LA were described as unbeaten in three games heading into the period covered by the league update.
In the run of results cited alongside the Colorado comeback, LA’s form improvement was linked to more recent victories over Minnesota United FC and Colorado. Those results arrived after LA spent much of the season below the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs line, and the Galaxy are now positioned in the thick of a crowded Western Conference playoff race as the league schedule reaches the late stage.
The St. Louis vs. LA Galaxy contest is framed as a clash between a side on a long unbeaten run and a team finding form at a crucial time. For St. Louis, Damet’s early-season transformation remains a central storyline, with the team’s unbeaten stretch now extending deep into the league schedule.
For LA, the league update highlights that summer reinforcements have played a role in the turnaround and that Klauss’ return from injury has provided another boost as the Galaxy continue to press for postseason positioning. With both teams in active pursuit of playoff goals and St. Louis also preparing for a US Open Cup final, the Sunday Night Soccer spotlight adds additional weight to the Matchday 29 meeting.
