Vancouver Whitecaps extend Thomas Müller deal through 2027 MLS Sprint Season

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced Tuesday that Thomas Müller has signed a contract extension, extending his stay with the club through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season. The announcement keeps the German star in British Columbia beyond his initial arrival, which the club’s update dates to August 2025, and positions Müller for another campaign built around Vancouver’s continued push for silverware in Major League Soccer.

In his remarks included with the club’s announcement, Müller said he has enjoyed the experience so far with Vancouver and highlighted both the consistency of his routine and how frequently he is able to be on the pitch. He described the period with the Whitecaps as “a hell of a ride,” calling it fun to be with “this team,” “these people,” and the club, while also stating that his body remains in good condition.

Müller joined the Whitecaps in August 2025, and the club’s release ties his arrival to the team’s rapid rise. In his debut campaign, the update credits Müller with 7 goals and 3 assists in seven regular-season games and says he helped lead Vancouver to its first-ever MLS Cup final. The extension is therefore presented as the next chapter in a stint Vancouver has characterized as transformative during its modern MLS era.

The Whitecaps say Müller has continued to produce in 2026. The club’s report places him at 9 goals and 8 assists “this year” and notes that, with eight regular-season matches remaining, Vancouver leads the Western Conference on 50 points. The club also frames the current stage of the season as a direct pathway to its long-term objective: bringing home the club’s first-ever MLS Cup title.

Müller also addressed the competitive environment within the squad in his comments accompanying the announcement. He said it was important to have “competition” both internally and externally, adding that the coaching staff is working to keep the group sharp while developing not only the playing style but also the players themselves. He pointed to last season’s success in the Whitecaps’ modern-day MLS history as a moment that created a sense of momentum, which the club’s release links to its desire for more progress.

The contract extension includes a clear timeline. As described in the club’s announcement, Müller’s new deal ensures he will remain with Vancouver through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
