Alpine announce Mike Elliott as Chief Technical Officer

Alpine has announced the appointment of Mike Elliott as its Chief Technical Officer, bringing the long-time Formula 1 engineer back to the sport. The British technical leader last worked in Formula 1 for Mercedes, and his move marks a return after he left the team toward the end of the 2023 season.

Elliott’s career in Formula 1 spans more than two decades, beginning in 2000 when he first joined McLaren as an aerodynamicist. According to Alpine, he progressed through multiple roles within the team before moving to Renault in 2008, remaining with the Enstone-based organization until 2012, when he joined Mercedes.

At Mercedes, Elliott held a sequence of senior engineering positions that included Head of Aerodynamics, then Technology Director from 2017 to 2021, and Technical Director between 2021 and 2023. In 2023, he swapped roles with James Allison to become Chief Technical Officer, a role that preceded his eventual departure from the team, which was announced six months later.

In Alpine’s statement confirming his appointment, the team said Elliott will “oversee the technical and engineering functions at the team's factory at Enstone” in his new role. Alpine also highlighted Elliott’s experience, adding that he has a “proven track record in the sport,” referencing eight Constructors’ and eight Drivers’ Championships connected to his contributions, and stated that his arrival strengthens the team’s technical capabilities as it looks to build on improved on-track performances and close the gap to the top four teams.
