A survey of 3,043 NHL fans found the Vancouver Canucks received 0% of first-place hatred votes and finished 23rd in a most-hated teams list.
The Story
A new NHL fan survey suggests Vancouver Canucks supporters are not the league’s most loathed club, with the team ranking low on a “Most Hated Teams” poll released by HockeyStats.com co-founder JFresh.
According to the survey results, fans of each NHL team were asked to rank their three most-hated teams, producing 3,043 total votes. In those voting totals, the Canucks did not appear in the rankings as a top choice: Vancouver received 0% of first-place hatred votes, along with 2% of second-place and 2% of third-place votes.
In the final standings across the league’s 32 teams, Vancouver finished 23rd on the most-hated list. JFresh also published a separate ranking of one-sided hatred based on fan-to-fan sentiment.
On that “I Don’t Think About You At All” list, the Canucks and Edmonton Oilers appeared, reflecting a more lopsided dynamic between their fan bases. The results reported for that matchup showed 61% of Vancouver fans saying they hate Edmonton, compared with 14% of Oilers fans who returned the sentiment about Vancouver.
For Vancouver-based fans specifically, the top three most-hated teams were characterized as “very predictable” in the survey breakdown. Edmonton ranked first among Vancouver fans’ list, with Vegas Golden Knights second and the Toronto Maple Leafs taking third as a non-division rival.
While the NHL-wide survey indicates Vancouver is not a major source of league-wide resentment, the reported one-sided view underscores that the Canucks’ most intense animosity remains tied to familiar opponents. The survey results place the Canucks in a different category than the teams that drew the highest levels of first-place votes across the league.
JFresh’s survey also provided context for what comes next on the ice, noting the Canucks and Oilers will have multiple chances to renew their rivalry within a short stretch of schedule. The teams are set to play three times over the course of the following week.
The first meeting in that stretch is identified as a pre-season matchup on Thursday, with puck drop scheduled for 6:00 p.m. PT at Rogers Arena. After that exhibition game, the teams are scheduled for a home-and-home series to open the regular season.
For Canucks fans in Vancouver, the survey’s low “most-hated” placement is likely to be read as a sign that widespread league resentment may be directed elsewhere, even as the fan-to-fan tilt between Vancouver and Edmonton remains clearly pronounced in the poll’s one-sided hatred framework.
