Derek Forbort, previously with the Vancouver Canucks, has signed an AHL professional tryout with the Calgary Flames.
The Story
The Vancouver Canucks chose not to re-sign veteran defenceman Derek Forbort this offseason, and the 34-year-old has now signed an AHL professional tryout (PTO) with the Calgary Flames.
Forbort will look to earn a contract with Calgary after the PTO. The Flames already know the player: during the 2019-20 season, he appeared in seven regular-season games and 10 playoff games for the organization.
In his most recent stint with Vancouver, Forbort was limited to two games and finished with zero points, two penalty minutes, two hits and four blocks. He missed almost all of the season due to hip issues.
Before that abbreviated run, Forbort recorded two goals, 11 points, 45 penalty minutes, 65 hits and 77 blocks in 54 games for the Canucks during the 2024-25 campaign.
Over 11 NHL seasons split between the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks, Forbort has posted 19 goals, 87 assists and 106 points, along with 925 hits and 940 blocks, for a plus-23 rating.
