The Seattle Seahawks waived guard Christian Haynes to make room for Quenton Nelson after trading with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday.
The Story
The Seattle Seahawks made a roster move on Tuesday after acquiring eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts, waiving fellow guard Christian Haynes in the process.
Seattle selected Haynes in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the 81st overall pick out of UConn. After the Nelson trade, the team waived Haynes to open a spot on its 53-man roster.
The move comes after Seattle rotated Haynes and rookie Beau Stephens at right guard earlier in the season while Anthony Bradford was sidelined on injured reserve.
Under the waiver process, another NFL team has the opportunity to claim Haynes and assume his contract. If he clears waivers, he can become a free agent.
Nelson was selected sixth overall by Indianapolis in the 2018 NFL Draft and has been recognized with eight Pro Bowl selections and three first-team All-Pro honours. The Seahawks acquired him in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.
The trade also targets interior line issues for Seattle, which ranked 21st in pass-block win rate and 27th in run-block win rate, with Nelson’s experience in both facets of blocking expected to bolster the unit.
