Austin FC fell 2-1 to the Vancouver Whitecaps on October 17, 2026 at Q2 Stadium, marking its third consecutive MLS defeat.
The Story
Austin FC lost 2-1 to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Q2 Stadium, extending the Verde and Black’s losing streak to three straight matches.
Austin took the lead in the first half when Myrto Uzuni scored after capitalizing on an errant pass from Vancouver, but the visitors scored twice after halftime to secure the win.
Vancouver’s second-half goals included an effort from Yadaly Diaby, described in the match reporting as an “incredible shot” from the corner of the box to the far post.
The defeat left Austin FC at 0-3-4 in its last seven home matches and with a record of 7-13-10 (31 points), sitting 14th in the West. The club entered its next match in Kansas City with eight points separating it from the ninth and final playoff spot, with four games left.
Interim coach Davy Arnaud said Austin has struggled to win at home, stating: “It’s an issue for us and we can’t put our finger on it. In this league it’s very difficult to get to where you want to be if you can’t win at home.” He added, “We’re going to keep fighting until the standings tell us that it’s not available.”
Arnaud also criticized Austin’s play over the first 45 minutes, saying the team “wasn’t sharp enough to give the forwards opportunities.” He pointed to a goal conceded early in the second half, after Ryan Gauld was left unmarked for an uncontested header on a cross, saying, “You can’t concede a minute into the second half. We didn’t do a good job of defending in that moment.”
Outside of a Brandon Vazquez header on a corner kick, Austin did not create notable scoring chances over the final 45 minutes, with the reporting noting a 0.19 expected goals total for the match. Arnaud said of Diaby’s shot: “If he hits that shot 100 times, I don’t know how many times he makes it. It was a great shot.”
