The Story
Veteran quarterback Zach Collaros is active for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as they face the Montreal Alouettes in Saturday’s East Division final at Percival Molson Stadium in Montreal.
The Alouettes won the game 33-23, sending them on to the Grey Cup.
Collaros, who returned from an injury, completed 21 of 27 passes for 228 yards in Winnipeg’s loss.
He was a game-time decision after hurting his ribs in Winnipeg’s regular-season finale and missing the Blue Bombers’ East semifinal win over Toronto.
Winnipeg trailed 23-10 at halftime but closed within three points in the fourth quarter when Collaros led the team to Montreal’s 34-yard line with a chance to erase the deficit.
With 3:50 remaining, Alouettes linebacker Tyrice Beverette sacked Collaros to force a fumble that he recovered, turning the momentum for Montreal.
On the ensuing drive, quarterback Davis Alexander capped an eight-play sequence with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Snead, who scored with 1:11 left.
Offensively, Blue Bombers running back Brady Oliveira finished with 105 rushing yards on 14 carries.
The game also included kicking for both teams, with Montreal kicker Jose Maltos Diaz converting 4-of-4 field goals and Winnipeg kicker Sergio Castillo going 3-for-4.
Montreal will travel to Calgary for the Grey Cup on Nov. 15 at McMahon Stadium, where it will face the Edmonton Elks.
