Canucks among teams interested in trading for Flames forward Connor Zary

Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary is drawing trade interest from multiple teams, including the Vancouver Canucks, according to Elliotte Friedman.

The Story

The Vancouver Canucks are among the teams interested in trading for Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary, Elliotte Friedman reported.

Zary, a 2020 first-round pick by the Flames, has been actively shopped by Calgary dating back to the summer. In June, it was reported that Calgary was “actively shopping” Zary and seeking a second-round pick in return, but no trade was completed.

In the early days of the 2026-27 regular season, Zary lost his grip on an NHL roster spot with Calgary and was placed on waivers last week. He went unclaimed and was reassigned to the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers, where he scored in his season debut.

Friedman also reported that Calgary has no interest in using its remaining salary-retention option on Zary.

Zary’s contract carries a $3.775MM average annual value and runs through the 2027-28 season.

The 25-year-old forward scored 14 goals and 34 points in 63 games in 2023-24, followed by 13 goals and 27 points in 54 games in 2024-25. In 2025-26, he recorded 12 goals and 25 points in 74 games before spending time waiting for his next NHL opportunity in the AHL.
