Several Metro Vancouver communities are hosting Halloween-themed events with fireworks or allowing limited personal fireworks on Oct. 31.

The Story

A free Halloween-themed community event is scheduled to return to Maple Ridge on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Memorial Peace Park, running from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The event, titled “Celebrate the Night,” is described as featuring light installations and lantern displays, interactive games and storytelling.

In Burnaby, “Central Spark” is set for Friday, October 30, 2026 along Patterson Avenue and Central Park, with a free celebration that includes a DJ, food trucks, spooky entertainment and a drone light display, followed by a fireworks finale.

On Halloween night, a “Free Halloween Fireworks Festival” is planned at Minoru Park in Burnaby on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with stage performances, trick-or-treating and other family-friendly activities ending with a fireworks finale.

For people planning to set off personal fireworks on Halloween, the available permit rules note the following restrictions for specific Metro Vancouver jurisdictions: the District of North Vancouver allows fireworks on private property between 6 and 10 p.m. on October 31 with a $10 permit for those age 19 and older; Burnaby allows fireworks on private property on October 31 with a permit costing $110 and available online for those age 18 and older; New Westminster allows low-hazard fireworks on private property from 4:00 p.m. to 12:01 a.m. on November 1, while fireworks on public property require written permission from the Fire Chief, and the minimum age for purchasing fireworks is 18+; and Port Coquitlam allows fireworks on private property until 11 p.m. on October 31 with a $52.50 permit for those age 18 and older.

The guidance provided also states that setting off fireworks in other Metro Vancouver cities not listed above is prohibited and that a fine will be issued if someone is caught.
