Ben James takes four-shot lead heading into final round of World Wide Technology Championship

Ben James shot a 6-under 66 on Saturday to take a four-shot lead at the World Wide Technology Championship in Los Cabos, Mexico.

The Story

Ben James extended his momentum at the World Wide Technology Championship in Los Cabos, Mexico, making birdies on his opening three holes and finishing with a 6-under 66 to move to 21-under (195) for the tournament.

James’ performance gave him a four-shot lead heading into the final round as he looked for his first PGA Tour title. The 21-under total came after a birdie on the par-5 18th, where he finished with a pitch to two feet.

He entered Saturday with a one-shot lead after making the most of another 36-hole advantage, and he said he hit a “little cut 5 (-iron)” into the 15th, a shot he described as risky but one that, with the wind off the right, had a better chance of rolling left.

Ryan Gerard posted a 65 and remained four shots behind James. Gerard played bogey-free, missing only a six-foot birdie putt on the final hole.

Other notable positions included a five-way tie for 22nd at 11 under involving Sudarshan Yellamaraju of Mississauga, Ont., while Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., and Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ont., were in a 10-way tie for 27th at 10 under.

Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C., was in a three-way tie for 65th at 5 under. Chris Kirk (65) and Denny McCarthy (67) were five shots behind James, with Alvaro Ortiz of Mexico (66) in the next group, six shots back.
