Seattle won the coin toss and chose to defer while the Seahawks and Chiefs traded drives in the early first quarter at Lumen Field.
The Story
The Kansas City Chiefs visit the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football at Lumen Field, with Seattle looking to recover after a two-game losing skid knocked the Seahawks out of the NFC playoff picture.
Seattle coach Mike Macdonald is also seeking to get the team back on track as Kansas City aims to maintain its flawless record in the road game.
The game began at 7:20 p.m. CT, after Seattle won the coin toss and deferred to Kansas City. The Chiefs started the night at their own 27-yard line.
Early in the first quarter, a Kenneth Walker-heavy drive brought Seattle and Kansas City into each other’s territory. Walker connected on a third-down catch that would have put Kansas City inside the 40, but Travis Kelce was flagged for an illegal shift during pre-snap motion, and Matt Araiza punted from the Seahawks’ 14-yard line.
On the Seahawks’ first offensive series, Sam Darnold took over at the Seattle 14. Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the target on each of the first three plays of the game’s opening stretch, and the Seahawks moved near midfield after an AJ Barner tush-push picked up a first down.
Later, Mansoor Delane recorded a pass break-up on third down to force a punt, and the Chiefs began the next possession at their own 10 after the TV timeout.
