Eby says Conservatives are “conducting themselves as if they’ve won” amid fundraising focus

NDP leader David Eby says interim Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson has focused on fundraising rather than taking media questions in the final days of the B.C. election campaign.

The Story

NDP Leader David Eby says the B.C. Conservatives are “conducting themselves as if they’ve won” as the provincial election campaign enters its last stretch and leaders make their final pitches across the province.

Speaking at a campaign stop in Surrey, Eby said interim Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson has “gone into hiding,” pointing to Doerkson’s decision not to take questions from reporters on Tuesday and the lack of any scheduled media availability for Wednesday.

The Conservatives have said Doerkson has two fundraising events on his agenda after five others held over the past week, as the party pushes for donations to counter what it calls NDP attack ads.

Elections BC says advance voting closes at 8 p.m. Wednesday, with about 711,000 people having voted in the first five days of early polling, down by about 9 per cent compared with the first five days of advance voting in 2024.

The final day for voting is Saturday. The Conservatives have said Doerkson will return to public campaigning on Thursday with an announcement and media availability in Metro Vancouver, followed by a rally in Surrey.
