Vancouver head coach Manny Malhotra says left winger Jake DeBrusk was sent home from Rogers Arena after coming down ill and will miss the Canucks’ Saturday night game against the Calgary Flames.
The Story
Vancouver will be without left winger Jake DeBrusk for its first Saturday night game of the season as the Canucks host the Calgary Flames at Rogers Arena.
Head coach Manny Malhotra told reporters that DeBrusk came to Rogers Arena feeling ill and was promptly sent home to recover, leaving him out of the lineup against the Pacific Division foes.
The 29-year-old played in Vancouver’s first two games of the 2026-27 season.
DeBrusk is in the third year of a seven-year, $38.5 million contract, which carries a $5.5 million average annual value through the 2030-31 season.
Last season, DeBrusk took the ice in 81 games for Vancouver and recorded 23 goals and 19 assists for 42 points as the team finished last in the NHL and secured a top-three draft pick, which it used to select Caleb Malhotra.
The previous season, DeBrusk played all 82 games, making Saturday only the second regular-season contest he has missed since signing with the Canucks on July 1, 2024.
With DeBrusk sidelined, Vancouver’s early-season offence has included centre Elias Pettersson, who scored two goals and added two assists in the first two games against the Edmonton Oilers.
After Saturday night’s game against Calgary, the Canucks have a quick turnaround, with a matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday.
