Richmond Fire-Rescue responded to a fire on the second floor of a two-storey commercial building in the 8900 block of River Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

Richmond Fire-Rescue was called to the Bridgeport area around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday for a fire in a two-storey commercial building. The incident was reported in the 8900 block of River Drive.
When crews arrived, there was smoke and flames coming from the second floor. Acting deputy chief Trevor Northrup said firefighters had to fight the fire from the exterior because the second storey had partially collapsed.
Fire-rescue resources at the scene included eight fire trucks and 23 staff, according to Northrup. Crews focused on suppressing the blaze after it was confirmed to be concentrated on the second floor.
Northrup said no injuries were reported among fire-rescue crews or civilians. The report also said the incident had disrupted traffic, with River Road blocked near Great Canadian Way as of about 5:45 p.m.
The fire response continued as firefighters worked in the area near Great Canadian Way, where access was restricted while the scene was managed.
