The Story
Daniel Ríos netted two minutes into the second-half stoppage time to rally CF Montreal to a 1-1 draw with New York City FC on Saturday at Citi Field.
Andrés Perea gave NYCFC a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, scoring in the 41st minute after receiving a pass from Nicolás Fernández Mercau. The goal was Perea’s career-high fourth of the season, while Fernández Mercau recorded his ninth assist in his first full MLS season.
Ríos’s late equalizer pulled Montreal level, with Samsy Keita making two saves in his fourth career start. Keita, a 17-year-old Montreal native, had conceded six goals in his first three outings.
Matt Freese made one save for NYCFC, and neither keeper made a stop in the first half.
With the result, CF Montreal moved to 6-19-8 and NYCFC to 9-12-12 as the teams prepared for their next regular-season matches.
Montreal will host the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday to close out the regular season, while NYCFC will play at D.C. United on Saturday to finish its schedule.
