Evan Rodriques was fined $5,000 for high sticking Marco Rossi after a second-period incident in New Jersey’s 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.
The Story
NHL Player Safety reviewed an altercation Saturday involving New Jersey’s Evan Rodriques and Vancouver’s Marco Rossi, issuing a $5,000 fine after the Devils’ centre received a double-minor with 10 seconds remaining in the second period of a 4-1 New Jersey victory.
According to the ruling, Rodriques retaliated to a pre-draw shove by the Canucks’ pivot, and his stick blade struck Rossi in the chest with an upward trajectory toward the throat.
The $5,000 fine is the maximum allowed under Collective Bargaining Association rules for high sticking.
After the game, Canucks head coach Manny Malhotra said he was “given an explanation,” but added he did not agree with it, replying “No.” when asked if he accepted the decision.
