‘You Can See Everything’ edges ‘Clayface’ for No. 1 as Halloween weekend sales dip

Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” topped the North American weekend box office with $10.6 million, slightly ahead of “Clayface” on a Halloween-affected schedule.

The Story

North American box office ticket sales slipped over the Halloween holiday weekend as audiences were drawn away from theatres on Saturday, according to studio estimates cited Sunday.

The Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” led the weekend tally with an estimated $10.6 million from 2,655 locations in its third week in theatres. The Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim-directed film has earned $63.9 million to date.

“Clayface,” the DC Studios release about the Batman villain, trailed by a narrow margin, finishing just $200,684 behind “You Can See Everything” with $10.4 million. The Warner Bros. release fell 57% in its second weekend in theatres and has generated $44.1 million domestically against a reported $44 million budget.

Laika’s animated film “Wildwood” placed third, adding 150 screens in its second weekend to reach an estimated footprint of 3,100 theatres in the U.S. and Canada. It earned an estimated $7.5 million and is in its second week.

In fourth place, “Wicker” earned $4.1 million. The comedic fantasy stars Olivia Colman as a woman who commissions a basket maker (Alexander Skarsgård) to build her a wicker husband.

“Street Fighter,” in its third weekend, rounded out the top five with an estimated $3.2 million.

In notable expansions, the Sundance indie “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York” added more than 1,000 locations in its second weekend and earned $1.9 million, placing it in the top 10.

Netflix also reported earnings from the theatrical release of its World War II film “The Mosquito Bowl,” which made $455,000 from 349 locations. “La Bola Negra” made $418,000 from 38 locations in its third weekend, bringing its running total to $1.2 million.

Overall, domestic box office remains up more than 17% from last year, with nearly $8.5 billion in total ticket sales to date. Final domestic weekend figures were set to be released Monday, after estimates for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theatres were used to compile the top 10.

The estimated domestic top 10 were: 1) “You Can See Everything” ($10.6 million), 2) “Clayface” ($10.4 million), 3) “Wildwood” ($7.5 million), 4) “Wicker” ($4.1 million), 5) “Street Fighter” ($3.2 million), 6) “Resident Evil” ($2.5 million), 7) “Other Mommy” ($2.5 million), 8) “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York” ($1.9 million), 9) “Heart of the Beast” ($1.6 million), and 10) “Sense and Sensibility” ($1.4 million).
