VPD investigating assault of 77-year-old woman in Fairview neighbourhood

Vancouver police say a 77-year-old was injured after an unprovoked attack near Cambie Street and West Broadway Monday.

The Story

The Vancouver Police Department says it is investigating after a 77-year-old woman was injured in an unprovoked attack by a stranger in the city’s Fairview neighbourhood on Monday.

Police say the woman was walking near Cambie Street and West Broadway around 6:30 p.m. when she was intentionally shoulder-checked and knocked to the ground by someone walking in the opposite direction.

After the assault, the suspect continued walking eastbound on the north side of Broadway, police said. They said the suspect did not say anything or offer assistance.

A witness called police and stayed with the woman until officers arrived, the VPD says.

Police said the woman was taken to hospital for treatment of a cut to her head.

The suspect is described as between 20 and 30 years old, wearing navy-blue pants, a navy-blue rain jacket with the hood up, and dark-coloured headphones. Police asked anyone with information or video footage to contact them.
