Rookie Gavin McKenna scored two goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs lost 5-4 to the Seattle Kraken on Oct. 28, 2026.
The Story
The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a 5-4 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday night, but rookie Gavin McKenna produced a historic performance for his team.
McKenna scored two goals in the game, becoming the youngest Maple Leafs player in over 80 years to record a multi-goal effort, according to NHL Public Relations (@NHLPR). In NHLPR’s post on Oct. 28, 2026, McKenna was noted for becoming “the youngest @MapleLeafs player in over 80 years to score a multi-goal game.”
NHLPR also tied McKenna’s night to several additional team milestones. With his two goals, he scored his fourth career goal and became the sixth 18-year-old to reach as many for Toronto in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68), and the first since Luke Richardson (four in 1987-88).
The two-goal game also made McKenna the third different 18-year-old Maple Leafs player to score multiple times in a contest in the past 80 years, following Vincent Damphousse (two on Nov. 15, 1986) and Wendel Clark (two on Oct. 19 and Oct. 13, 1985).
At 18 years, 312 days old, McKenna also became the youngest Maple Leafs player to record a multi-goal game since Jack Hamilton did so on Feb. 19, 1944 (18 years, 262 days).
Beyond the two-goal total, NHLPR reported McKenna’s point-scoring totals for the matchup as 2-1—3, making him the youngest Maple Leafs player to record a three-point game since Ted Kennedy’s 2-1—3 on March 5, 1944 (18 years, 84 days).
Earlier in the Maple Leafs season, McKenna’s production had also stood out. NHLPR credited him with 15 games played entering that stretch, and noted that he became the 11th teenager in Maple Leafs history to record 10 career points in 15 games or fewer, with only Auston Matthews (6 games in 2016-17) and Mitch Marner (12 games in 2016-17) doing so in the past 40 years.
McKenna’s season came after the Maple Leafs selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. In 15 games, he had scored five goals and 11 points for Toronto at the time of the report, with the team hoping his early impact continues as they pursue their first Stanley Cup since 1967.
