Bears-Seahawks Week 8: Jeffery Simmons, Caleb Williams and what could decide Monday Night Football

Seattle is preparing for its Week 8 Monday Night Football matchup with Chicago at Lumen Field, with Bears key questions centred on recent roster and quarterback changes.

The Story

The Seattle Seahawks are getting ready for their Week 8 matchup with the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football at Lumen Field.

In a conversation with Chicago Bears On SI contributor Mike Moraitis, the discussion focused on Chicago’s recent moves, including the Bears trading for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Moraitis said the deal was “historically expensive,” but that it was the type of “all-in move” the Bears needed while Caleb Williams is on his rookie deal.

Moraitis also addressed whether Simmons would be available for the Week 8 game. He said, “I do believe he's going to play in Week 8,” adding that Simmons has “an extra day to get ready.”

On Williams’ play since returning from injury, Moraitis said the quarterback has “picked up where he left off before the injury,” with “nothing different” in his performance over the past two games. He added that Williams is “rapidly ascending to the elite quarterback” Chicago hoped to develop, citing improvements in both accuracy and decision-making and noting Williams’ “elite mobility.”

When asked what fans should know about the Bears beyond statistics, Moraitis pointed to the “Ben Johnson factor,” saying the presence of an “elite play-caller” makes the offence more dangerous and gives the team added confidence against opponents.

Moraitis said a potential path for Chicago to struggle would be inconsistency in the cornerback position, “especially from Jaylon Johnson,” who is described as the team’s No. 1 corner but has looked different from the player once considered “an elite cornerback.” He added that if Seattle targets Johnson, it “could yield positive and game-changing results.”

As for the outcome, Moraitis predicted the Bears will win, saying he expects Chicago to “walk out of Lumen Field with a massively important victory” and forecasting a Bears 23, Seahawks 21 result.
