A 48-year-old man from New Mexico has been charged after police say he entered an East Vancouver home and was found inside early Oct. 21, 2026.

The Story

Vancouver Police say a 48-year-old man from New Mexico has been charged following an alleged break-and-enter at an East Vancouver residence near Atlin Street and East 29th Avenue in the early hours of Oct. 21, 2026.

Police said the incident occurred around 3:45 a.m., when a woman asleep in the home awoke to find an unknown man reportedly rummaging through her personal belongings.

The woman told police she pretended to be asleep until the man left the room, then locked her bedroom door and called the Vancouver Police Department. She reported she lived with roommates and believed the man was still inside the home.

Officers responded quickly and located the suspect on the second floor. When they tried to speak with him, police said he ran into a nearby bedroom.

According to police, officers observed the man attempting to jump out of a window, and he was taken into custody.

Vancouver Police said the suspect refused to identify himself. Officers located identification belonging to a New Mexico resident and confirmed his identity.

Police said Daniel Joseph Campbell, 48, has been charged with one count of break-and-enter and one count of obstructing a peace officer. Campbell remains in custody.
