The Story
Dan Doornink, a former Seattle Seahawks running back, has died at the age of 70.
Doornink was drafted by the New York Giants in 1978 and was traded to the Seahawks in 1979, beginning his seven-season run in Seattle.
In total, he played 105 games for the Seahawks, rushing for 1,836 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns.
Doornink’s best-known performance came in the 1984 Wild Card round, when he rushed for 123 yards against the Los Angeles Raiders at the Kingdome.
The 1984 playoff showing followed the Seahawks’ first trip to the postseason in 1983, a milestone in which Doornink’s running had contributed to Seattle’s early playoff identity.
After football, Doornink later became a physician in Yakima, described as a Doctor of Medicine.
