After a 3–2 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers on Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks surrendered a third hat-trick through their first nine games and moved into sole possession of the NHL lead in hat-tricks allowed.
The Story
Vancouver’s 3–2 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers on Thursday night coincided with the third hat-trick they’ve allowed in their first nine games of the 2026–27 season, a result that left the Canucks alone atop the NHL for hat-tricks allowed.
Brady Tkachuk was responsible for Florida’s hat-trick, scoring three consecutive goals for the Panthers.
The Canucks began the season by allowing a hat-trick in their opener, when Edmonton Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard scored three goals in a 6–5 overtime win against Vancouver.
Five games later, Vancouver surrendered their second hat-trick of the season to Logan Stankoven of the Carolina Hurricanes; Carolina won that game 7–2.
Before Thursday’s matchup, Vancouver was tied for first in the NHL in hat-tricks allowed with the New York Islanders, who had also allowed two hat-tricks. The Islanders’ opponents in those games included Alexis Lafrenière and the New York Rangers, as well as Brandon Hagel and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In the 2025–26 season, Vancouver surrendered five hat-tricks in total, with the first coming on November 5 against Tyler Bertuzzi and the Chicago Blackhawks and the third coming on March 4 against the Hurricanes, with Nikolaj Ehlers scoring three against the Canucks. That year’s first team to allow three hat-tricks was the St. Louis Blues, doing so in their 33rd game of the season—a 7–2 loss to the Nashville Predators.
