Dateline Canada launches Nov. 26 with Diana Swain investigating Elizabeth Bain’s disappearance

Dateline Canada will premiere Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT with journalist Diana Swain leading a two-hour special on the unsolved disappearance of Elizabeth Bain.

The Story

Citytv is launching Dateline Canada, bringing the internationally known Dateline franchise to Canada for the first time with a new investigative news special. The two-hour program premieres Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Citytv and Citytv+ and is led by award-winning journalist Diana Swain.

The inaugural episode revisits the disappearance of Elizabeth Bain, a University of Toronto student who vanished in Scarborough in 1990. More than three decades later, the case remains unsolved.

The special will also examine the wrongful conviction of Robert Baltovich, Bain’s former boyfriend, who was convicted of second-degree murder in 2000. The conviction was later overturned, and prosecutors ultimately chose not to proceed with a retrial.

In a statement, Swain said she is “proud to bring this story to Canadian audiences,” adding that Dateline Canada creates “an opportunity to re-examine a complex story through a fresh lens” and “bring viewers a deeper understanding of the events that shaped this case and investigation.”

Keith Morrison, a longtime NBC correspondent, also said in a statement that it is “an exciting evolution” to have the franchise expand with Swain leading the new Canadian edition.
