TransLink says it will play pre-recorded Bruno Mars SkyTrain station announcements at Stadium–Chinatown on five B.C. Place concert dates.
The Story
TransLink says riders at Vancouver’s Stadium–Chinatown SkyTrain station will hear pre-recorded announcements recorded by pop star Bruno Mars on the days of his five B.C. Place concerts.
The announcements will play at Stadium–Chinatown station on Oct. 14, 16, 17, 20 and 21, coinciding with Mars’ run at B.C. Place, which begins Wednesday.
TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn said in a statement Wednesday: “Most people don't expect to hear Bruno Mars while they're heading to work, school, or a concert. That's what makes this so much fun, because it brings the concert experience to SkyTrain customers.”
Quinn also said the collaboration with Warner Music Canada will generate additional revenue for TransLink.
TransLink said Mars recorded two announcements, including one that begins: “To everybody on the train, it's Bruno Mars. Thank you so much for coming to The Romantic Tour. I hope to see you all very soon. I love you.”
The second announcement, TransLink said, is a near variation that begins: “To everybody taking the train, it's Bruno Mars. I can't wait to see you all. It's about to get real romantic tonight. I love you.”
TransLink previously teased the announcements on social media Tuesday with emojis referencing Mars’ songs including “Die with a Smile,” “Marry You” and “Locked Out of heaven.”
According to TransLink, Mars is the first musical artist to lend his voice to a SkyTrain station announcement, joining other celebrities who recorded SkyTrain-related transit messages.
TransLink says Vancouver-born actor Seth Rogen recorded SkyTrain announcements about transit etiquette heard on board SkyTrains in 2018, and Canadian soccer star Christine Sinclair lent her voice on SkyTrain, buses, SeaBuses and the West Coast Express to help guide transit users during the FIFA tournament earlier this year.
TransLink advised concertgoers to take transit and allow extra travel time on show days.
