Surrey police say a man in his 60s survived after being struck by a train near Golden Ears Connector

Surrey Police say a man in his 60s was injured but conscious after being hit by a train on CN tracks near the Golden Ears Connector and 182 Street Tuesday shortly before 6 p.m.

The Story

Surrey Police Service (SPS) say they received a call about a train-related incident on the CN tracks near the Golden Ears Connector and 182 Street shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers and members of BC Emergency Health Services arrived, police said they found a man near the tracks. They reported he was injured but was conscious, breathing, and talking.

SPS said the man sustained a laceration to his scapula and told officers he was walking on the tracks, did not hear or see the train and got “clipped” by the train despite trying to avoid the impact.

Police said the information available at the time indicates the incident does not appear to be intentional.

The man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, SPS said. They added that CN Rail has taken over the investigation and that there are no reports of ongoing delays to trains in the area.
