Seahawks’ Quenton Nelson to miss Sunday after knee injury; Macdonald says surgery will be needed

Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said Quenton Nelson is week-to-week with a knee injury and will miss Sunday’s game against the Cardinals, with a minor procedure planned.

The Story

Seattle offensive lineman Quenton Nelson is sidelined with a knee injury and will miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said Friday.

Macdonald described Nelson, 30, as “week-to-week” and added the Seahawks do not plan to place him on injured reserve. “There’s a timeline right now that warrants not IR, so that’s what we’re going to do,” Macdonald said.

Nelson was traded from the Indianapolis Colts to the Seahawks on Oct. 27 in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Nelson will undergo a procedure to clean out some cartilage in his knee.

Macdonald said Nelson had been dealing with knee problems when he arrived in Indianapolis’ trade after the Colts’ season start got off to a rough start, and that symptoms worsened in the days after the move. “We re-imaged it, and it was aggravated to some degree,” Macdonald said. “So we’ve kind of done the due diligence, and everybody agrees it’s best to take care of it now and play the long game.”
