B.C. parties aim to fill all 93 ridings before Oct. 3 nomination deadline

Major parties say they are on track to field candidates in each of British Columbia’s 93 ridings ahead of the Oct. 3 nomination deadline.

The Story

British Columbia’s major parties say they are on track to fill all 93 electoral districts as the Oct. 3 nomination deadline approaches, according to candidate lists posted with Elections BC.

Elections BC lists 43 official candidates for the B.C. New Democrats and 32 for the Conservatives as of Sept. 30.

Both parties say the figures on their websites are higher than the Elections BC totals, but candidate counts for the smaller parties remain in the single digits.

CentreBC and OneBC each have one official candidate listed with Elections BC, while seven Greens candidates have been registered.

Neither CentreBC nor OneBC existed during the 2024 election, and both emerged after the B.C. Conservative Party splintered shortly after coming within a few seats of forming government.
