The Story
Vancouver Police say a female tourist was pushed from behind into traffic near Carrall Street and East Pender Street on Friday just after 2 p.m., and that the victim was not injured.
Police said the suspect fled before officers arrived. Investigators describe the suspect as an Indigenous woman between 40 and 50 years old, about 5’8″ with a medium build and medium complexion, with sunken cheeks and lip piercings. At the time of the incident, police said she was wearing a black toque, black jacket, black pants and black combat boots.
VPD Constable Darren Wong said Downtown Eastside witnesses are often reluctant to come forward and that limited video surveillance was available in the areas where the two incidents occurred.
Police are also asking the public for information about a second stranger attack reported nearby on Sunday, when a man was stabbed in the neck multiple times near Main and Hastings streets at about 11:40 p.m. VPD said the man’s injuries have been determined to be non-life-threatening.
Investigators described the suspect as a Caucasian man between 30 and 40 years old, approximately six feet tall with a stocky build and a bald head. Police said the suspect was wearing an orange shirt and tan pants.
Both incidents remain under investigation, and police are asking anyone who witnessed either incident, or motorists with dash-cam footage from the area, to call the VPD non-emergency line at 604-717-3321.
