Delta police say 64-year-old Gwenyth Brigit Dwyn of South Delta died in hospital from injuries after the Sept. 30 crash outside Tsawwassen Mills.
The Story
One of the two people who remained in hospital after a crash outside Tsawwassen Mills Shopping Centre has died from her injuries, Delta police said.
Police identified the woman as 64-year-old Gwenyth Brigit Dwyn, from South Delta, who died in hospital on Wednesday.
Police said one other person who was initially taken to hospital has since been released and continues their recovery at home.
Previously, police confirmed that two First Nations elders were killed in the crash.
Delta police said investigators were called to the area around 10:25 a.m. on Sept. 30, when preliminary information indicated the driver of a vehicle may have experienced a medical emergency and struck four pedestrians outside the mall.
Investigators have completed extensive scene and collision analysis and are continuing to examine available evidence to determine what occurred, police said, noting they have not reached final conclusions.
Police said the vehicle involved in the fatal crash was also involved in an earlier collision, and that the possibility of a medical event prior to the collisions remains under investigation.
“We understand that the community has questions and wants answers about what occurred,” Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley, media relations officer for Delta police, said. “Our responsibility is to ensure those answers are based on a complete and objective examination of the evidence. Investigators are working through a significant amount of information, and it is important that we not reach conclusions before that work is complete.”
Police asked anyone who witnessed the incident or observed the involved vehicle on the Tsawwassen Mills property before the collision, and who has not already spoken with investigators, to contact the Delta Police Department at 604-946-4411 and reference file 26-18401.
