Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk says being on the ISS shows Canada can lead in space exploration

Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk says his presence on the International Space Station demonstrates Canada can contribute to the leading edge of space exploration.

The Story

Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk said his work aboard the International Space Station shows Canada can contribute to the leading edge of space exploration.

Kutryk, 44, is two weeks into a six-month mission that will include conducting experiments and research and taking part in critical maintenance work. During a news conference in Longueuil, Que., he floated inside the station and demonstrated one of the physiological experiments he is taking part in.

The astronaut said he is “having a blast” and described it as life-changing to watch Earth from the station. He also said the mission is an important demonstration that Canada’s strong legacy in space will continue going forward.

Kutryk launched to space on Oct. 1 as part of NASA Crew 13, reaching the space station in just under eight hours, which he was described as the fastest flight ever to reach the station.
