Vancouver police say one man has been charged and another remains at large after a teen was allegedly slashed in the face on Granville Street in August.
The Story
Vancouver Police Department (VPD) investigators have charged one suspect and are asking the public for help identifying a second person following an alleged face-slashing on Granville Street last month.
In a statement issued Sept. 23, police said the incident occurred Aug. 8 at about 3:20 a.m. when a 19-year-old was out with friends near the intersection of Granville Street and Smithe.
Police allege that two men approached the group, removed a chain necklace from the victim’s neck and then slashed the victim with a blade. VPD said the victim suffered a five-inch slash running from the tip of his nose, beneath his eye, and ending near his eyebrow.
Crown Counsel approved the charges after police laid them following the incident. The VPD said the charged suspect, 29-year-old Garret William Thomas, faces one count of robbery and one count of aggravated assault.
The VPD said Thomas was arrested Sept. 29 in the Downtown Eastside and that investigators later executed a search warrant at his home the same day. Thomas remains in custody while awaiting a bail hearing.
Police have also released a photo of the second suspect and are seeking information to identify him. The VPD did not provide further descriptive details of the second man beyond asking the public for assistance.
Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
