Richmond RCMP has released a public video urging residents to lock doors, use home alarms and report suspicious activity to help prevent break-ins.

Richmond RCMP has released a short public video focused on practical steps residents can take to reduce the risk of break-ins and theft, and on how to respond when suspicious activity occurs.
The video encourages residents to keep doors locked and to activate home alarms, including measures intended to limit opportunities for unwanted entry. It also advises people not to hide keys outside their homes and to keep valuables out of sight.
RCMP also recommends ensuring security cameras are positioned and functioning well enough to provide clear footage. As an added deterrent, the video suggests using timers or devices such as radios, televisions or lights to help create the appearance that a home is occupied.
The force said residents should report any suspicious activity immediately and also report all break-ins, attempted break-ins and theft-related incidents. When contacting police, Richmond RCMP asks people to provide details such as suspect descriptions, licence plate information and the direction of travel, along with dates and times of observed activity and any available security footage or photographs.
Richmond RCMP further reminded residents that anyone who witnesses a crime in progress should call 9-1-1 right away. Cpl. Frank Bryson, the media spokesperson for Richmond RCMP, said taking straightforward precautions can reduce the chances of becoming a victim and help police identify suspects when offences occur.
