Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged supporters to back new U.S. sanctions after President Donald Trump signed an order pausing the restrictions.
The Story
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged supporters to speak out in defense of new U.S. sanctions on Russia after President Donald Trump signed an executive order pausing a sweeping package of restrictions targeting the Russian economy.
In a message shared Saturday, Zelenskyy called Trump’s decision unfortunate and said the move disregarded the “Lindsey Graham Act,” which he said was meant to impose pressure on Russia to end the war. He added that the act “could have helped enormously — and still can!” and said it “needs to actually work, and every voice in support of it matters.”
Zelenskyy also said Moscow carried out a “massive” strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, targeting more than 15 sites across the country.
Ukraine’s air force said Russian forces launched four cruise missiles and 332 attack drones overnight, adding that all of the missiles and 289 of the drones had been suppressed or destroyed.
Zelenskyy said Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector were having “severe consequences,” and Ukrainian officials have warned Russia is stockpiling ballistic missiles for more attacks in the coming months.
