Heidi Klum turns herself into a giant severed hand as her Halloween party hits 25 years

Heidi Klum debuted a giant severed-hand costume at her New York Halloween party, marking 25 years since she began hosting it.

The Story

Heidi Klum marked the 25th anniversary of her annual Halloween party in New York on Saturday by transforming into a giant, gruesome severed hand.

Klum was left largely unrecognizable except for her eyes and mouth, with blood dripping as she stuck out her tongue. The top of the hand featured a gory display of dangling ligaments and tendons, while an ensemble of helpers wore blood-stained hazmat suits.

Klum said the concept for this year’s look came after she started thinking about how she could fit her body into the costume. “I looked at my hand and I thought, ‘Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,’” she said.

She added that it took about five to six hours to get into the hand costume, while making it required more time. “Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it,” Klum said, adding, “It's quite heavy.”

Klum also incorporated details tying the costume to her husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, who did not attend the party because he was on tour. The design included a tattoo of his name on her ring finger, along with her palm lines and veins. “A little bit of Tom is with me,” Klum said.

The party has become known for elaborate, transforming costumes over the years. Klum said she went viral in 2022 when she arrived at the event on the end of a fishing line, encased in a worm costume, and she has also dressed as Medusa, a peacock, an 8-foot (2.4-metre) “Transformer,” and a werewolf from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” among other characters.
