Feature highlights retro-chic Douce Diner in North Vancouver and its chicken and waffles

A local food feature says Douce Diner in North Vancouver offers classic diner dishes with a farm-to-table spin, including panko-fried chicken and waffles and brioche French toast.

The Story

A local food feature describes Douce Diner in North Vancouver as a retro-style brunch spot with black-and-white hexagon tiled flooring, pops of pink, yellow and mint green, and an elevated counter under a neon “Hello Sunshine” sign.

The feature says the diner is owned and operated by veteran chef Dawn Doucette, and that Douce Diner opened in June 2019 after she took over the former Corner Café at 1490 Pemberton Ave.

According to the feature, the menu includes house-made buttermilk biscuits for an Eggs Benedict option, and also offers crispy fried chicken and waffles served with country sausage gravy.

The feature says the chicken and waffles include a panko-fried chicken breast on top of a fluffy waffle, with country-style gravy and maple syrup served alongside.

The feature also describes a brioche French toast made with challah bread, mascarpone cream and lemon curd, and topped with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

The feature adds that hand-spun milkshakes are a regular draw at the restaurant and says the lively dining room includes families, couples and solo diners, with Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” playing in the space.

It concludes by pointing to Douce’s scratch-made meals and “1950s nostalgia” as key parts of what makes the diner feel different, and recommends coming hungry, including possibly saving room for a milkshake.
